Another cover of the Pharrel & Jay-Z track Frontin’ - this time a jazzy version by someone called Troy ‘Trombone Shorty’ Andrews - no really..

The Jamie Cullum cover of Frontin’ by Pharrel & Jay-Z is one of my favourites and is, I think, better than the original. Well now I’ve found another jazzy version, which I also think beats the Pharrel original.

I heard Troy ‘Trombone Shorty’ Andrew’s version of Frontin’ on Smooth FM (formerly Jazz FM) and he’s taken the very flat, emotionless original and given it a bit of funk & soul. It’s taken from an album called Orleans & Claiborne, and it does have a hint of New Orleans about it. As you’d expect from a guy whose nick name is Trombone, there’s some great brass on there, and it’s just a great party song.

I don’t know much more about this jazzy cover of Frontin’, apart from the fact that the band (Orleans Avenue) are still in their teens, and that the album also has a Maroon 5 cover. I’ll let you know anything else I find out, but in the meantime, why not download Frontin’ by Troy ‘Trombone Shorty’ Andrews now?

Obviously everything on this site is the opinion of me, Ciaran Norris, and no-one else, including my employers and anyone else I know. I guess that it's probably obvious, but thought I should probably make it explicit. Anyway, enjoy!
