Glad to see Ladyhawke made the list! It's definitely my album of the year :)

What did you think of Black Kids? They also sound kinda 80s (am I stuck in a music rut?) - but I just love the album.

Lots more here too - I'll definitely be checking out Fleet Foxes, Vampire Weekend and Friendly Fires.

Like we said before, 2008 was definitely the year of the eponymous debut eh?

I love AGDCFF (it's just too long to write!) but actually think that Original Pirate Material is still his best work - so fresh & obviously created with absolutely no care for what was cool or of the moment.

I know a lot of people who don't really get The Streets' latest album, but it just seems to speak to me (if that isn't too pretentious a thing to say): I love the fact that he seems to be at peace with himself and has produced a really mature piece of work, but still full of energy.

As for Kings Of Leon over Weller, well I've come to the new Leon album quite late but whilst it's getting better with every listen, it just doesn't have the depth of 22 Dreams: it's essentially one song played brilliantly 11 times.

Listening to it though has made me dig out Aha Shake Heartbreak which, if anything, I slightly prefer to Only By The Night - I've had almost exactly the same experience with Elbow's Seldom Seen Kid & Leaders Of The Free World.

As for seeing Kings of Leon live, I'm now rather annoyed I didn't pay closer attention when they played at the festival I went to in Belgium this summer.

Was Queens of the Stoneage this year? As in their most recent offering? I thought that was pretty good. As was Little Barrie. Not sure I agree with The Streets. A Grand Don't Come For Free was excellent but I really didn't like the recent album, nowhere near as good (In my opinion anyway, such as it's worth).

For me Kings of Leon stole it from Weller, by the width of a gnats pube. I really think that they're just getting better and better and am gutted I didn't see them recently. Curse my 14 Weller gigs spending extravaganza! And they come from the US too, which was a nice surprise.
