Organise for ten people to dine at the restaurant (wealthy looking types with loads of gadgets on the table that they place in their coats on backs of chair, will need to be dummy gadgets broken ipods etc bought for 99p off ebay…). See what happens. Do staff offer to take your coat to the cloakroom, does it come back empty? Sorry you lost your iPod

I’d like to draw your eye to this point & leave you to make your own assumptions:

At one point I was told that “We’ve been scammed a lot over the years, not that I’m suggesting that you’re scamming us*, by people claiming to have had things stolen, so we can’t replace them**”. An obvious response to this might have been “Maybe you should look into why so many people are claiming to have things go missing in the cloakrooms” but by this point I really couldn’t be bothered.

Having your ipod stolen is a massive shame. Very bad of Gaucho to refuse to replce it. I wonder whether anyone else has had items stolen from the cloakroom there?

I was disgsuted when I dined at another expensive establishment (L’Anima), and had my change nicked from my jacket in the cloakrooms. It was only the couple of 50ps I use for my swimming locker every morning, but still. Annoying.

Lesson - don’t ever hand your coat to someone you don’t know and trust …

Dan: I’d recommend Hawksmoor instead for steak at least as good (I’d say better) in a more quirky (read: less polished) atmosphere. Give it a try.
